- Ultimate Pool system requirements
-
- Ultimate Pool is a computationally intensive game, which takes full
- advantage of the Power PC's RISC processor. These processors are
- designed to compute many floating point calculations very quickly.
- Unfortunately, due to the huge number of these calculations needed to
- compute the physics of pool, we were unable to get acceptable speed
- on the older 680x0 processors. We tried, but it just wasn't possible,
- so for now, Ultimate Pool needs a Power PC Macintosh. Below is the
- minimum system configuration needed to run Ultimate Pool:
-
- A Power PC Macintosh!
- System 7.0 or greater.
- A monitor supporting 256 colors or greys.
- A screen resolution of 640 x 480
- (resolutions of 832 x 624 and 1024 x 768 are awesome!).
- Sound Manager 3.0 or greater.
- 5.5 Meg of available RAM.
- 4 Meg of hard drive space.
-
- If you have any problems running the game, send us email and we'll do
- our best to figure out why.
-
- How to play
-
- Ultimate Pool was developed on the Apple Macintosh, and consequently
- has an elegant and intuitive user interface. All of the controls you need
- to play the game are displayed below the pool table, and the mouse is
- used to position the cue ball and aim the cue. All options that you can
- specify (including choosing a new opponent) are located in the game's
- Preferences menu.
-
- For a quick and easy introduction to Ultimate Pool, select the "How to
- Play..." option under the game's apple menu. This brief overview will
- get you started and explains the basic controls used in the game. Once
- you have familiarized yourself with the controls, you can consult the
- Ultimate Pool User Guide for more in depth information on the controls
- and various keyboard shortcuts. In addition, the User Guide describes
- all of the games that come with Ultimate Pool and their rules.
-
- What's new with version 1.1
-
- The Ultimate Pool PPC 1.1 upgrade includes these much requested
- and excellent new features:
-
- English/spin control. It is now possible to add spin to the cue
- ball with an intuitive control panel addition.
-
- Keyboard shortcuts. You can use the keyboard to shoot, fine tune
- your aim, shift the cue ball while aiming, extend the guideline to
- the cushion, and add spin to the cue ball.
-
- Draggable dialogs. All dialogs that pop up during the game and
- ask you to make a choice are draggable and window shadeable,
- so you can make a more informed choice.
-
- Next ball display. The games of House and Tournament 9-ball,
- and the new game of Rotation, show you the color of the current
- (lowest-numbered) object ball.
-
- Improved ball physics. We loosened up the ball physics a little
- after real pool players indicated that they were a bit too stiff.
-
- Rotation. A challenging new game that really takes advantage of
- the new English/Spin Control.
-
- New & improved 8-ball. This isn't really a new feature, but we
- fixed the really embarassing scratch on 8-ball bug.
-
- Translators wanted for Ultimate Pool User Guide
-
- Ultimate Pool is a popular game around the world. In order to broaden
- its appeal, we are looking for people who are able to speak any of the
- following languages (in addition to English) who might be willing to
- translate the User Guide:
-
- French German Italian Japanese Portuguese Spanish
-
- If you like to play Ultimate Pool, please write and let us know if
- you'd be interested in translating the manual. We'll give anyone who
- translates a free copy of the game, plus lots of acknowledgement.
- And your efforts will definitely be appreciated by people all over
- the world.
-
- If your country's language is not listed, and you think Ultimate Pool
- would be more popular where you live if there was a manual available
- in the native language, just let us know and we'll consider it.
-
- How (and why) to register
-
- Ultimate Pool is shareware and costs U.S. $20.00. This means that
- you can try out the program for 30 days and see if you like it and
- enjoy playing. If you do continue to enjoy the game, then please send
- in your shareware fee. Shareware authors are not salaried employees
- who draw a paycheck no matter what. We only get paid if honest
- people send in their payments.
-
- Without continued support from the Macintosh community, we can't
- afford to continue developing games. I already know far too many
- people who say: "I have a PC cause there aren't enough good Mac
- games". That phrase depresses me more than any other and I make
- every effort to convert people to the Mac whenever possible. And
- quality games go a long way in converting people. If you're trying to
- decide whether or not to register, just ask yourself if you'd really
- like to live in a world where you can only run Windows 95.
-
- Registering Ultimate Pool is pretty easy. Just run the register
- program that came in the Ultimate Pool folder. If you don't have a
- register program, then run the Ultimate Pool application, select
- "Register Pool..." under the Preferences menu and then click in the
- "Create Register" button at the bottom of the dialog. Once you have
- the registration program, run it and choose the payment method
- that you would like to use and enter your personal information.
-
- If you pay by credit card, then you can either email, fax, or postal
- mail the form, whichever you prefer. If you pay by email, then send
- the appropriate form to sales@kagi.com. If you prefer to fax the
- information, the fax number is: 1-510-652-6589.
-
- To pay by postal mail, print out the form and mail it with your
- credit card information or a check or cash to:
-
- Kagi Shareware
- 1442-A Walnut Street #392-JS
- Berkeley, California 94709-1405
- USA
-
- You will receive your registration code via email (preferred) if you
- have an email address. It will usually be sent within 3 to 5 business
- days after Kagi receives your payment. If you don't receive it after a
- week, send email to qnote@kagi.com and we'll investigate.
-
- If you don't have email, please request a postal receipt and your code
- sould arrive with it in about 1 week or so (more or less, depending on
- where in the world you live). If there's a long delay, then send a note
- with your original payment information and an explanation of the
- problem to Kagi who will handle your request. If possible, please
- enclose an email address, since this is the easiest way for us to reach
- you. Thanks!
-
- To CD distributors
-
- Ultimate Pool is shareware and may be distributed freely, provided
- permission is asked for and received from the author. To contact
- us, send email to qnote@kagi.com. All documentation and registration
- information must accompany any distribution of the program. In order
- to ensure that you have a complete "package", download the copy on our
- Web page: http://www.cs.princeton.edu/~jhs/shareware.
